JUDD Trump claimed a sensational victory over Ronnie O'Sullivan in the latest round of matches in the PartyCasino.com Premier League Snooker.
Trump, ranked 30 in the official rankings, defeated world number one O'Sullivan 4-2 at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter.
O'Sullivan has dominated the Premier League by winning the last five competitions and this defeat was only his fifth in 45 matches since 2005 and his first in 11 encounters.
Defending Champion Sullivan knew a victory in his latest Premier League match would secure a spot in the-semi-finals.
Trump, the 20-year-old who qualified for the tournament by winning the Championship League Snooker internet-broadcast competition earlier this year, stood in his way and was looking to enhance his own chance of a play-off place.
Trump, who had already beaten Marco Fu and Stephen Hendry in this year's Premier League, made a bright start as a break of 67 led to him claiming the opener, although a missed red with the rest denied him a potential £1,000 bonus for a century break.
But it did not stay that way for long as O'Sullivan registered scores of 48 and 44 to level the match at 1-1 after the second as Trump was left to rue a missed pot at the pink after a bad kick when playing his previous shot.
Trump, who has been hailed as a young Ronnie O'Sullivan by some snooker pundits, again showed his talent with a well-crafted break of 79 to regain the lead at 2-1. However, just as in the first frame, he passed up a golden opportunity to claim a century bonus as there were still four reds left on the table.
A fine long pot led to Trump compiling a break of 50 in the fourth and that helped him move 3-1 ahead to ensure he would leave the match with at least a point.
But things got better for Trump as he claimed the fifth as he fought back from needing one snooker to claim the frame 69-65 and take the two points.
O'Sullivan won the last frame of the night and is still top of the league but will not have enjoyed suffering a rare defeat.
