Mark Davis is the latest player to qualify for the final stages of Championship League Snooker after beating Mark Selby in the Group 4 final. The Leicester man had run undefeated through the league section of the group but the stout match play of Davis saw him over the line in a hard fought final.

Davis, who bagged £6,000 for his Group 4 efforts, has now claimed a total of £13,600 from Championship League Snooker with the promise of more to come, when he joins Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy and Neil Robertson plus three to be determined in the final group in March.

“I’m absolutely over the moon and I can’t say enough about this tournament,” said a delighted Davis.

“A great event, great money, great match practice and you’re well looked after. Last year I earned £600 in this event so it’s all positive this year!” he added.

Earlier Selby had edged past Mark Allen in a high quality match up that contained two centuries, while Davis made lighter work of Peter Ebdon. Both Allen and Ebdon return for Group 5 in ten days time, along with Selby.

The £500 group high break prize went to Selby with an excellent run of 142, made during his match against Mark Davis in the group stages.

The Championship League Snooker event is a venture between Matchroom Sport and Perform where 25 of the game's finest players compete with all matches broadcast on a host of betting websites.

Each group features seven players with each man playing the other six once in a round-robin basis. Every match is the best of five and the winner gaining a point. At the end of the league phase the top four advances to that group's semi-finals where the two winners meet in the final.

Players are awarded £100 per frame in the round robin stages, and this increases to £300 per frame for the play-offs. In addition, £3,000 goes to the play-off winner, £2,000 to the runner up and £1,000 each to the two semi-finalists.

Each group winner then goes through to the final group on March 21st & 22nd where big money as well as a spot in the Sky Sports-televised Premier League Snooker is up for grabs. The two bottom players are eliminated from the competition, while the remaining four move forward to Group Four to be joined by three new players.

Play continues at 12.00am on Monday February 6th when Group 5 commences. Mark Selby, Mark Allen, Peter Ebdon and Jamie Cope, will be joined by Ricky Walden, Barry Hawkins and Mark King as 12 more league matches take place.
