Davis continued his surge up the ranking list during the 2010/11 season, climbing seven places to No 19. He proved himself a good traveller with some excellent performances in the two ranking events in China. Having qualified for the the Roewe Shanghai Masters he beat Marco Fu and Stephen Maguire at the venue, then came within a frame of reaching the semi-finals of a ranking event for the first time in his career, but lost 5-4 to Jamie Burnett. Davis also got to the venue stage of the Bank of Beijing China Open, and knocked out Maguire again before losing to eventual champion Judd Trump.
But the Sussex player's hopes of earning a place among the top 16 of the world rankings for the first time ended when he lost his qualifying match for the Betfred.com World Championship 10-5 against Rory McLeod.
In 2010 he reached the last 16 at the Crucible, scoring a shock 10-8 victory over Ryan Day, before his run was ended by Mark Allen. Davis registered one of the the highlights of his career in 2003 when he captured the B&H Championship title at the Towers Snooker Club in Mansfield.
He knocked out Ian Hurdman, Jason Prince, Andy Hicks, Michael Holt, Drew Henry and Barry Hawkins to reach the final then came from 4-1 down to beat Turkish Cypriot Mehmet Husnu 9-6. That earned him a wild card to the Masters. "I've never been to Wembley, not even to watch," said Davis. "But everyone tells me there's a brilliant atmosphere and it will be fantastic to walk out there and play." He put up an impressive fight against Alan McManus at Wembley but lost 6-5.
Davis took up a course in book-keeping in 2000 in case he dropped off the Main Tour. At the Crucible in 1995, he beat Ken Doherty 10-7 in the first round before losing to Peter Ebdon. Doherty took his revenge when they were drawn together again in the first round in 1997, winning 10-8.
Away from snooker, he enjoys watching Western films. He got married in 2010.
