"Judd missed a couple of balls and I could've been out but I got another chance and made a few," said O'Sullivan.
"It's good to play Judd and it's pleasing on the eye to watch him. When you play some players you feel like you're in a coma but with Judd you feel like you've got the best seat in the arena.
"You can sit down and analyse the league table but if you win it takes care of itself and if I hadn't won then I wouldn't have deserved to get into the next round."
Trump won the opener after a loose safety from O'Sullivan gave him a chance and he made the Rocket pay with a break of 139.
The second frame was not as straight forward as Trump missed four opportunities to get in first. O'Sullivan scored 53 but a heavy contact saw him miss a frame-winning red. Trump fluked a red and then was lucky with a pink but he ran out of position, missed his next shot on a red and O'Sullivan made it 1-1.

O'Sullivan started well in the next with six reds and five blacks but any hopes of a maximum ended when he got a kick and had to play safe. Trump got in after O'Sullivan missed a blue and made an excellent break of 58 to win the frame.
That left a final frame shoot-out decider but Trump fouled early on. That gave O'Sullivan ball-in-hand and he responded with a break of 70 to win it 3-2.
