Rocket Ron eases into Donny final - 29/09/2011

Ronnie O’Sullivan 3-0 Matthew Stevens
70-0 (O’Sullivan 47), 94-0 (O’Sullivan 94), 77-12

Defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan eased his way into tonight’s final with a quick-fire performance that saw off Matthew Stevens in less than 40 minutes. O’Sullivan, who lost his first match in this year’s event 3-2 to Shaun Murphy in Guildford earlier in the month, was in excellent form as his opponent really didn’t get a look in until what was the final frame.

O’Sullivan started out in blistering style, winning the opener without reply, a run of 47 doing the damage. He narrowly missed out on a century in the next and by this stage Steven’s back was against the wall.

Having spent the first two frames as a spectator, the Welshman couldn’t do anything significant in his visits in the third and it was O’Sullivan who took it to run out a 3-0 winner.

“I played well really,” said O’Sullivan.

“ I enjoy turning up having a laugh and I don’t take it too seriously. Of course it hurts when I lose but I like being on the road and playing. I just want to play solid consistent snooker and get the rewards.”
