Sensational recovery gives Trump first ever PLS win - 17/09/2009
Stephen Hendry 2-4 Judd Trump
Hendry's scores first 117-0 (Hendry 104), 125-0 (Hendry 57, 67), 51-70 (Hendry 51, Trump 38), 29-56 (Trump 36), 0-126 (Trump 103), 0-88 (Trump 88)
JUDD Trump made a fantastic recovery to claim his first ever win in the PartyCasino.com Premier League Snooker.
He trailed seven-time World Champion Stephen Hendry 2-0 and looked to be heading to a defeat in Great Malvern, Worcestershire.
At one stage, Hendry had accumulated a total of 293 points before Trump, competing in his first Premier League tournament this season, had even potted a ball.
However, breaks of 38, 36, 103 and 88 helped Trump win the last four frames to secure a memorable 4-2 victory.
“It was a tough game. I went 2-0 down and he (Hendry) was in, in the third so I feared the worst. It looked like being 3-0 down and I was thinking if he was going to miss tonight.
“Luckily for me, he did and I managed to take the frame and the match turned from there. It was nice to win the frame to go to 2-1 and when it went there I started to get a bit more relaxed.
“I’m really enjoying it and it’s a privilege to be playing in the tournament. To get my first win in only my second Premier League match is pretty good. The win means Trump leaps to top of the table, although he is the only one of the seven players to have played two matches so far.
Seven-time World Champion Stephen Hendry made a lightning start to his 2009 PartyCasino.com Premier League Snooker campaign.
Hendry's first match was against Judd Trump and it pitted Hendry, the oldest man in this year's competition, against Trump, the youngest player, at the Malvern Theatre in Great Malvern, Worcestershire.
A century break of 104 in the opener from Hendry earnt him £2,000 - £1,000 for winning the frame and a similar total for a break of at least 100.
The second frame followed a similar vein as breaks of 57 and 67 helped Hendry claim the frame by 125-0.
A 51 break in the third meant Hendry had scored 293 points before Trump had even potted a ball.
However, a missed red into the centre pocket gave Trump, who qualified for the Premier League by winning the internet-broadcast Championship League Snooker earlier this year, a rare chance.
A break of 38 later helped Trump, who lost 4-2 in his opening match against Neil Robertson two weeks ago, record his first frame of the night.
The fourth frame was the longest of the evening. Trump's break of 36 gave him the lead but Hendry chiselled away at the lead before a lengthy safety battle. But the deadlock ended when Trump made a fine long pot on a red.
His hard work was nearly wasted as he underhit a position shot going from the yellow to the green. But a great recovery, off of three cushions, to regain position enabled him to take the fourth to level it at 2-2.
Trump had been 2-0 down but it was a fantastic recovery from him. He made a break of 103 with a fine display of potting to move in front and ensure he would leave Worcestershire with at least a point.
