Trump on song again - 20/10/2011
Semi Final 1: Ali Carter 1 -3 Judd Trump 78-0 (Carter 78), 14-62 (Trump 30 & 31), 16-111 (Trump 111), 31-57 (Trump 53)
In the opening semi-final match, Judd Trump, the World No. 8, made it three wins from three starts to make it through to his second successive final as he defeated Ali Carter 3-1 at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter.
That result leaves the Essex man on nine points with one of his four events remaining.
After a scrappy opening spell, Carter took the first with a break of 78 to put himself in a strong position but Trump levelled it in a less than fluent second frame.
The Bristolian showed what he was made of when a run of 111 in the third put him in line for the £1,000 prize for top break of the evening. A break of 53 was enough to seal the win for Trump and secure a meeting with either Neil Robertson or Shaun Murphy.
“It was a bit of a struggle as I didn’t get going but the last couple of frames got a bit better,” said Trump.
"The first match is always harder; I played a bad shot straight away and let him in so it was difficult to get back in.
"I was a little bit scrappy with a few loose shots especially in the last frame so I was a bit lucky. Loose shots were giving him chances and at the start of the frames I was letting him in for no reason through bad safety play.”
Carter returns on Thursday, November 10 November at Banbury where he will need to beat John Higgins if he is to have a chance at making the play-offs.
